Course Overview

The manufacturing sector is at the tipping point of a new industrial revolution, driven by the rapidly evolving capabilities of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Over 90% of global manufacturing executives believe they must reinvent how their companies operate in order to survive. Beyond supply chain reconfiguration, manufacturing environments are becoming more autonomous and changing. How are manufacturing enterprises' approaching strategic reinvention in the midst of a general purpose technology transition?

Our interdisciplinary masterclass explores the strategic implications of AI for South African manufacturing enterprises. Participants will get an introduction to how this transformative technology challenges the traditional production paradigm. This unique one day masterclass culminates in an immersive co-creation session, where participants will gain exposure to deploying AI tools to prototype digital solutions addressing relevant manufacturing challenges. The question for every executive is no longer if AI will reshape your value chain, but how you will lead in this dynamic technology landscape?

  • Articulate Core Concepts: Introduction to the fundamentals of AI, including Machine Learning, Supervised Learning, Unsupervised Learning, Reinforcement Learning, Deep Learning and Generative AI.
  • Identify Manufacturing Use Cases: Explore high-impact AI use cases (international and local best practices) in manufacturing; from predictive maintenance to quality control.
  • Generate Ideas and Translate into Action: Employ AI tools to research, ideate and prototype a software application that solves a defined manufacturing challenge.

Participants will receive a TWIMS Future of Manufacturing attendance certificate.
